Edgar Allen Poe effect

Edgar Allen Poe is a famous poet and story writer. In one of his stories "tell tale heart" he uses repetition through out the whole story. i think that the repetition is to emphasize the feeling of the story. It makes the words scarier and i causes a bigger effect on the reader. I highly suggest reading it. Anyway, I tried to imitate this and I came up with this:

The darkness is chilling, chilling me to the bone.
But the darkness doesn't cover me fast enough.
I still saw his blood stained clothes, his wide eyes in shock.
I still felt his touch, now shaking, shaking in fear.
He pressed his lips to mine one final time.
He whispered " I love you forever."
with that I was falling, falling deep, into an endless sleep.

I don't know if it has the same effect. If you want to check out his story here is a link. any advice is appreciated..vixroadsrginia.edu/~hyper/poe/telltale.html
